Mark D. Ramirez

Dr. Mark D. Ramirez (PhD., Texas A&M University) is an Associate Professor in the School of Politics and Global Studies at Arizona State University. Professor Ramirez studies the role of democratic and non-democratic processes on political preference formation among citizens with a special emphasis on how these processes impact racial and ethnic minorities. His research appears in the leading academic journals such as the American Journal of Political Science, British Journal of Political Science, Criminology, Journal of Politics, Political Psychology, and Public Opinion Quarterly. He is the Director of the MA Program in Political Psychology and the current organizer of the Working Group in Political Psychology. He is also affiliated with the Provost's Southwest Borderlands Initiative, the Center for Latina/os and American Politics Research, the Center for the Future of War and the National Institute for Civil Discourse. Prior to Arizona State University, he served as a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Center for Empirical Research in the Law at Washington University in Saint Louis and a Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellow.

His new book, Ignored Racism, with Professor David A.M. Peterson, explores how historic institutions shaped White-Latino interactions creating a unique expression of White animus toward Latinos. This animus shapes White's opinions toward a wide range of contemporary political controversies ranging from immigration to policing to voting rights to electoral choices.
